Secure Remote Payment Council

The Secure Remote Payment Council (SRPC) is dedicated to the growth, development and market adoption of debit based internet eCommerce, emerging eCommerce payment types, and mobile channel payment methods that meet or exceed the security standards for pinned based card present payments. The Council accomplishes this by encouraging and supporting those activities that accelerate the implementation, adoption and promotion of these payments.



Key Activities to Accomplish the Mission:

- Facilitation of th identification and implementation of data and tools that reduce fraud, and improve identification and location of those perpetrating it;



- Improve identification and location of those perpetrating it;



- Providing a venue for the introduction of new eCommerce payment initiation solutions and a standardized process for their validation;



- Providing tools and resources necessary for increasing knowledge;



- Promoting best practices for service providers;



- Providing networking opportunities for industry participants;



- Educating Policymakers, Regulators and Law Enforcement on the benefits of these payments



The Council Steering Committee consists of a variety of industry representatives including Michael A. Keresman, III, Chief Executive Officer, CardinalCommerce Corporation.

eBillme Announces Launch of Three New Programs

ebillme
eBillme is pleased to offer a cash back rewards program for customers who shop online and pay with cash. The program gives consumers 1% cash back for every purchase made using eBillme, at the online checkout. Shoppers simply select eBillme as the payment option at over 800 online merchant sites. Consumers can then sign‐up for eBillme’s rewards and immediately start earning 1% cash back for every order. eBillme for Teens:

The Pew Internet & American Life Project reports that 71% of Internet users aged 18-32 make purchases online. But when the Credit Cardholders' Bill of Rights Act (HR 627) passes, it will more difficult for students and consumers under the age of 21 to access credit. Without credit cards, these shoppers will find it difficult to shop online at your site. What are you doing to make it easy?

Industry Security Compliance is Good...But are You Really Protecting Your Business?

Payment Card Industry security compliance can present significant compliance challenges to businesses. This can include Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS), Payment Application Best Practices (PABP), SAS 70 Type II, Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), etc. For larger companies and organizations, resources may be readily available to consistently meet compliance requirements. For small and even medium size businesses, the burden can bedaunting just to meet the minimum industry security standards as the myriad of threats continually evolve.



It is very sobering if it is your business, your livelihood, and ultimately your responsibility to ensure that compliance requirements are met and the business is protected. Those responsible for ensuring information security and their colleagues may lose sight of the bigger picture. It is very dangerous to assume that after the compliance ‘check boxes’ are completed and Customer/Partner security concerns are alleviated, the job is done.



Many CEOs understand that protecting their business from security threats goes well beyond meeting minimum requirements. While industry compliance requirements are a good start, “protect the business” should be the mantra, and the scope of that challenge goes beyond any minimum requirements. It is not just a job, it is a life style, a culture. In order to stop bad guys, you need to think like one.



Bad guys are quite a diverse lot. They could be the buddy next to you at work with ill intentions, or in an effort to deliver revenue or provide extraordinary customer service, a well-intentioned colleague may ‘unintentionally’ aid and abet the enemy. External threats have a broad range. Some kids (and adults) may consider it an amateur sport to see how far they can push ‘the envelope’ to gain access to systems and information. State sponsored cyber warfare teams are ‘loaded for bear’ to steal and/or destroy - and there is everything in between the sport and the warfare. Remember, one recent major security breach in the industry evolved from an amateur sporting event into a professional one. In this case, once the bad guy realized the value of his discovery, the temptation to exploit the situation pushed him to another level of criminality.



Do not assume that meeting minimum requirements will ensure that your business is protected. Apply the framework of security standards to your entire business, not just the scope of compliance requirements. The security of your business is critical, and it should not be considered an expensive inconvenience. When it makes sense, it can be leveraged as a competitive advantage. Remember, if you really want to protect your business, you need to think like the bad guys.
