On Visa Being Visa: Tells iZettle They're Shut off in Denmark, Finland and Norway

Visa being Visa...

According to Finextra:  In a message on its Web site, the firm's CEO Jacob de Geer says: "We are sorry to report that based on a policy decision by Visa Europe, we have no choice but to stop processing Visa card payments in Denmark, Finland and Norway on August 1."

Users in Sweden can still accept Visa payments while customers in the other three countries can take MasterCard. American Express is another option in Finland and Diners Club in Denmark and Norway.

De Geer has refused to expand on why Visa Europe has taken the decision to withdraw support for the PCI DSS compliant system but says: "We hope we can bring Visa card acceptance back to Denmark, Finland and Norway shortly and will of course keep you posted on the development."

Visa's rival MasterCard became an investor in iZettle last month while it has a stake in Square, which offers a similar product to the Swedish firm, although the two are not, yet, competitors with the former only operating in the US.

Paymentwall announces Paymentwall Mobile, an HTML5 based global payments alternative to iTunes and Android based appstores platforms.

[SAN FRANCISCO: 07-25-2012] Paymentwall announces the first globally available, comprehensive HTML5 payment solution that allows all application users anywhere in the world to pay seamlessly to any application integrated with Paymentwall Mobile.

The launch of Paymentwall Mobile will enable more than two billion users around the world to pay for digital goods, applications and digital content, using local payment options on their mobile devices for the first time.

iTunes and Google Play only allow credit card based payments which leaves out 90 percent of global mobile users who do not have credit cards or don’t want to use their credit cards online. Paymentwall Mobile enables users to pay through many local payment options and opens the door to the global market for application developers to monetize their user-base.

In addition to credit cards being the only means for end-users to make a purchase, there has been controversy regarding application developers complaining about the 30 percent fee that iTunes charges and the fractioned outlook of Android based application stores make it difficult to monetize on the Android platform. Paymentwall Mobile’s HTML5 based monetization solution solves both pain points for app developers with a five percent revenue share, a more efficient and high-converting user interface for end- users and a product geared towards the future convergence for mobile application development.

“Although iTunes is a well executed, easy to use platform, the 30 percent fee the publishers need to swallow and the Western-oriented approach to monetizing only via credit card is not sustainable and HTML5 will emerge as the future of mobile application development,” says Paymentwall CEO Honor Gunday.

Gunday added; “Google Play’s payments flow is not ideal and the developers are complaining about conversion losses compared to iTunes. There are also too many appstores out there, with Samsung, Verizon and the like all having their own, the market is too fractured. We believe that more and more companies will convert to an HTML5 payments model in order to truly reach a global audience.”

Dating sites such as Match and media sites such as Netflix have opted out of iTunes due to the 30 percent fee. Paymentwall addresses this by providing their comprehensive

payments service at a five percent fee, the service includes full 24-hour customer service support, optimization and back-end accounting at no additional costs.

For publishers the earnings are collected around the world in 70 different currencies in more than 200 countries, then delivered to the publisher in their preferred currency with full reporting and analytics. In addition, integration can be done in a few short steps with a simple API that instantly allows the application developers to start collecting global payments.

About Paymentwall

Paymentwall allows users all over the world to buy digital content, virtual goods and subscriptions utilizing any of the 85+ local payment solutions covering various payment types (credit card, debit card, mobile, landline, prepaid, ATM, terminal, bank transfer, direct debit and offers). The solution is available in 20+ languages to developers and end-users in over 200 countries. Paymentwall is privately funded, headquartered in San Francisco with offices in Kiev, Berlin, Istanbul and Manila.

Cubic Expands Los Angeles TAP Card System to LA Department of Transportation, the Region’s Second Largest Bus Operator

SAN DIEGO, Calif., July 30, 2012 –

The Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) is the newest member of the regional TAP smart card system in Los Angeles County designed and delivered by Cubic Transportation Systems, Inc., a business segment of San Diego-based Cubic Corporation (NYSE:CUB), and a leading integrator of payment and information technology and services for intelligent travel solutions.

The TAP system is an initiative of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA), which developed and manages the regional automated transit revenue collection system. LADOT is the 12th transit operator in the region to join TAP, and is the second largest bus operator on TAP, after MTA. The DOT runs the DASH and Commuter Express Transit bus fleets serving the downtown LA area and outlying major urban centers.

LADOT is an integral participant in the TAP system and the region, operating over 300 vehicles, and bringing the total number of vehicles in the region on TAP to 4,435. This new expansion makes LA the largest regional smart card operation in the US”, said Jane Matsumoto, Deputy Executive Officer, LACMTA.

Cubic integrated the onboard smart card validators independently from the cash collecting fare boxes that allow LADOT customers to “tap and go”. Value stored on the card can be used on DOT buses as well as other TAP-enabled buses run by Metro and other agencies in the Los Angeles region allowing patrons to use one card for completely seamless travel.

Flanked by officials from the city, MTA and LADOT, LA’s Mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa hosted an event on June 25 to announce the TAP expansion to the DOT, heralding the update as “a major milestone in the roll-out of the TAP system in Los Angeles County.”

“The regional smart card system will give LADOT’s 28 million riders a new option for paying their fares, and making it possible for riders to board more quickly, resulting in faster travel times,” commented Villaraigosa.

Speaking for fellow bus riders, Ramona Hallstead, who has used LADOT services since the early 1990s to get to and from her job with the fire department, added that being able to use one card for all trips will make it easier to use public transit.

“You don’t have to dig for quarters, and TAP saves time and money,” said Hallstead. “I encourage everyone to ride transit.”

TAP is one of more than a dozen smart card systems that Cubic has delivered to major cities and regional partnerships that include San Francisco, London, Miami/South Florida, New York/New Jersey, New Jersey-Philadelphia, San Diego, Chicago and Brisbane, Australia.

Cubic® Transportation Systems, Inc. is part of Cubic Corporation.
