New QuickBooks Point of Sale Goes Mobile With GoPayment

Liberates Small Retailers to Take Mobile Payments With Robust Tools to Run Brick and Mortar Stores
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--()--With QuickBooks Point of Sale 2013, small business retailers can now use the latest mobile technology to maximize sales both in and out of the store without sacrificing the powerful tools they need to run their business.
“With 10 years of point of sale experience, we understand the challenges small retailers face when trying to grow their business”
The newest point-of-sale product from Intuit Inc. (Nasdaq: INTU), being launched today, integrates with GoPayment, the company’s mobile payment processing application. Together, the products form one of the only robust mobile point-of-sale solutions specifically designed for the nation’s 2.8 million small retailers. Using QuickBooks Point of Sale 2013, retailers can:
  • Maximize sales by accepting credit cards in the aisle or on the go at street fairs and trade shows using GoPayment on the most popular smartphones and tablets.
  • Make better business decisions with detailed reporting and powerful tools to track inventory, sales, customers and employees.
  • Grow their business, giving brick-and-mortar retailers a new way to better serve customers while offering micro businesses room to expand from a mobile-only retailer to a store front owner.
“With 10 years of point of sale experience, we understand the challenges small retailers face when trying to grow their business,” said Chris Hylen, vice president and general manager of Intuit’s Payment Solutions division. “By integrating QuickBooks Point of Sale 2013 with GoPayment, we’re liberating retailers from their cash registers so they can better serve their customers and ring up more sales both in the store and on the go.”
The integration of QuickBooks Point of Sale with GoPayment enables more of Intuit’s small business customers – from pet shops to hair stylists – to better manage their businesses and serve the roughly 23 million customers who rely on them. This is consistent with Intuit’s strategy to enable its entire base of 8 million small business customers to accept payments with GoPayment and other Intuit payment services. As one of the leading small business payment processors in the U.S, Intuit processes more than $20 billion annually.
Never Miss a Sale – In and Out of the Store
QuickBooks Point of Sale 2013 helps retailers never miss a sale by integrating with GoPayment. The free GoPayment app comes with a card reader that plugs into the audio jack of an iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch as well as the most popular Android devices. Users can quickly swipe a card to process payment, send an email or text receipt with a map of where the transaction took place and automatically charge the correct sales tax using geolocation.
The sales and inventory data from GoPayment integrate seamlessly with QuickBooks Point of Sale, storing all current sales and inventory data in one spot. Users can also automatically populate inventory items within QuickBooks Point of Sale into the GoPayment app, eliminating the need to do it manually.
GoPayment also syncs sales data with best-selling QuickBooks financial software, which can be used in conjunction with QuickBooks Point of Sale to manage a retailer’s finances.
Start Taking Payments in Minutes
QuickBooks Point of Sale 2013 has a simplified signup process and expedited account approval, making it easier to start accepting payments within minutes. To improve productivity, this latest version also offers an enhanced navigation and user interface that make it easier to ring up sales as well as complete and drill down into other common tasks.
Manage and Track Your Business
QuickBooks Point of Sale offers retailers the powerful tracking and management tools they need to effectively run their business and make smart business decisions. Retailers can:
  • Track inventory and set automatic re-order points
  • Manage customer’s contact information and send personalized emails and gift cards
  • Access business reports to get unique insight into how the business is doing
  • Track employees’ hours and pay commissions
  • Manage and monitor business results for up to 20 stores from one location
  • Ring up sales faster with a complete set of optional, integrated retail hardware, including a receipt printer, bar code scanner, credit card reader and cash drawer
Pricing and Availability
QuickBooks Point of Sale 2013 software starts at $1,099.95 with the option to buy a complete set of integrated retail hardware. The free GoPayment app and card reader work on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch as well as the most popular Android devices. Discount rates start as low as 1.64 percent.
QuickBooks Point of Sale is available at select retail outlets, including OfficeMax, Office Depot, Best Buy, Staples, Sam’s Clubs, Amazon.com, Fry’s Electronics and Costco.com. It can also be purchased directly from Intuit by visiting pointofsale.intuit.com or by calling 800-604-5941.

Braintree Announces International Expansion of Online and Mobile Payment Services

Developers and e-commerce companies in countries around the world will be able to rapidly launch and scale online and mobile businesses with world-class technology and support
CHICAGO--()--Braintree (https://www.braintreepayments.com), the fastest growing payments platform for online and mobile commerce, announced today that it is expanding its payments platform internationally to help digital companies in every part of the globe launch, support, and scale successful online and mobile businesses. Merchants of all sizes in thirty countries will soon be able to access the same Braintree infrastructure and payment gateway as their U.S. counterparts, realizing benefits including fast integration and time to market, white glove customer service, and proven scalability. Braintree will offer access to its international payment services in private beta over the next few months, with a full launch planned for third quarter of this year.
“We’re answering the call of our customers and thousands of start-ups around the world for a truly global online and mobile payments solution. We will help e-commerce businesses and startups around the world launch, support, and scale successful businesses while giving our existing U.S. customers new ways to expand overseas.”
With its international expansion, Braintree will remove barriers to launching a business that have plagued e-commerce startups around the world. In the past, merchants outside the U.S. have lacked viable options or updated technology for online payments, making it difficult to get their businesses off the ground. Most international payment options are provided by local processors that often use outdated legacy platforms.
“Online entrepreneurship is one of the most powerful forces for growth in today’s global economy. Braintree disrupted the payments industry in the U.S. by making payments easy for developers to integrate in minutes rather than months. We’re now disrupting the global payments industry by providing international start-ups with the same technology available to the best U.S. and multi-national e-commerce merchants,” said Bill Ready, CEO of Braintree. “We’re answering the call of our customers and thousands of start-ups around the world for a truly global online and mobile payments solution. We will help e-commerce businesses and startups around the world launch, support, and scale successful businesses while giving our existing U.S. customers new ways to expand overseas.”
Allowing U.S. and multi-national companies to accept payments in more than 130 currencies, Braintree currently processes more than $4 billion in credit card transactions each year, including nearly $1 billion in mobile payments. The company’s client list includes numerous influential technology companies, including LivingSocial, 37signals, OpenTable, Fab.com, GitHub, Airbnb, Heroku, Engine Yard, Animoto, Shopify, and HotelTonight.
Braintree is expanding its full-stack payment platform into dozens of countries, including the United Kingdom, European Union, Australia, and Canada. A full list of countries can be viewed on Braintree’s international payment processing page on their website. International clients will gain instant access to Braintree’s developer sandbox, vault credit card storage system, and world-class customer service. This expansion will take place in the next few months. Support for local, non-credit card payment methods will be added in the coming year, and Braintree will expand into additional countries in the near future. Merchants can sign up to be notified when Braintree’s payment solutions will be available in their country.

Arizona State University Wins Inaugural NACCU Award for Mobile Access Control Pilot it Conducted With HID Global

June 5, 2012, 8:09 a.m. EDT

Award Recognizes Achievements in Completing World's First University Pilot of NFC Smartphones Carrying Digital Keys for Physical Access Control

IRVINE, Calif., Jun 5, 2012 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) -- HID Global, trusted leader in solutions for the delivery of secure identity, today announced that the company's mobile access control pilot with Arizona State University (ASU) has been recognized by the National Association of Campus Card Users (NACCU) with the organization's inaugural Innovative Technology Award. The award was given to ASU in recognition of the pilot program's ground-breaking work in validating the use of digital credentials on NFC smartphones for physical access control on a college campus.
"We are honored that NACCU has recognized this pilot program, which is an important step toward global deployment of mobile access control technology beyond cashless payment applications," said Debra Spitler, vice president of mobile access solutions with HID Global. "The pilot results clearly demonstrated the benefits of opening doors using HID's digital credentials that have been securely embedded into NFC smartphones, and we appreciate all of the valuable help from ASU and pilot partners ASSA ABLOY Americas, Device Fidelity, Research in Motion and Verizon Wireless."
To conduct the pilot, which was completed during the summer of 2011, a group of ASU staff and students were given NFC smartphones containing HID Global's Secure Identity Object(TM) (SIO) technology, a key feature of the company's iCLASS SE(R) credential and reader platform. SIO technology protects the integrity of identities while enabling the use of multiple form factors ranging from smartphones to microprocessor-based cards, contactless smart cards and other devices. SIOs on the credential side and the SIO Processor(TM) on the reader side work together to execute functions previously performed by traditional cards and readers, using a standards-based, technology-independent and flexible identity data structure that significantly enhances security, portability and performance.
ASU pilot participants gained access to their residence hall and selected rooms by presenting the phones to their door readers, just like they do with their existing iCLASS(R)-based physical campus ID cards. Participants used a variety of popular smartphones connected to all major mobile networks. Feedback from pilot participants cemented ASU's vision of a future where virtual identities can be created for each registering student and then delivered to them via a mobile application. Approximately 80 percent of participants said using a smartphone to unlock a door is just as convenient as using campus ID cards, and nearly 90 percent said they would like to open all doors on campus using their smartphones.
"This pilot proved the viability of the NFC-based mobile access model using secure portable credentials and the next generation of advanced access control systems, and also confirmed the high value that staff and students place on using their phones for more and more applications, including opening doors throughout the campus," said Laura Ploughe, director of business applications and fiscal control, University Business Services, at Arizona State University. "We are very pleased with the results, and gratified to have received this recognition from NACCU."
View the Arizona State University case study video that provides a first-hand look into the pilot and includes commentary from many of the partner participants, or download the case study for detailed information.
Sponsored by ITC Systems, the NACCU Innovative Technology Award is presented to an institution that has introduced a unique technology-based solution to a problem or opportunity. The Awards Committee chooses recipients based on the challenge and/or opportunity, the steps taken to determine a solution, and an evaluation of the measureable results of the solution. Dan Bodalai from ITC Systems presented this year's award to ASU's Laura Ploughe during the 19th Annual NACCU Conference in Seattle.
About HID Global Mobile Access Control
HID Global's mobile access control offering is an extension of the company's Genuine HID(TM) value proposition. It is based on the company's next-generation Secure Identity Object (SIO(TM)) technology, which is a key feature of HID Global's iCLASS SE access control solutions and operates within the company's Trusted Identity Platform (TIP). Within the TIP boundary, organizations can issue SIO-based credentials to Near Field Communications (NFC) mobile devices over the air using a convenient, cloud-based provisioning model. Combined with the proven reliability of smartphone subscriber identity module (SIM) technology, TIP creates an extremely secure and easy-to-manage mobile identity environment. With this model, two-factor authentication can be dynamically turned on when intelligence leads to an elevated threat level, new applications can easily be pushed to the phone, and multi-factor authentication becomes a contextual, real-time managed service.

As the only association serving the national and international campus card transaction industry, the National Association of Campus Card Users (NACCU) is the one source dedicated to high-quality educational programs, resources, services and tools. NACCU offers members infinite advantages in networking, developing partnerships, leveraging technology, problem solving, insight sharing and professional development.
NACCU membership is open to all colleges, universities, secondary institutions and companies that are involved with the campus card market.
