S. 3217 Opposed by America's Small Financial Institutions

WebCast on the Debit Amendment

Washington, D.C., June 9, 2010 -- America's small financial institutions will join together to voice their strong opposition to an amendment that was included in the Senate version of S. 3217, the Restoring American Financial Stability Act of 2010. The amendment will lower debit card acceptance rates for retailers, forcing debit card issuers to charge consumers for this loss of critical revenue or to stop issuing cards altogether.

Through a live online video broadcast, the CEOs of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) and National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) will explain the harm that would result to their member organizations, in spite of the so-called "carve out" for small financial institutions, and to American consumers.

Media participants will have an opportunity to ask questions to the panel through an online chat feature. Questions will be answered live throughout the broadcast.
