CARTES in North America 2012
LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The impact that smart cards, mobile payment applications, and new identification and secure access technologies hold in fostering new business growth and creating new industry sectors, will be on the main agenda at the CARTES in North America expo & conference. Scheduled for March 5-7, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nev., CARTES in North America will bring together international smart card, mobility and digital security experts to explore the latest technologies and market trends.
“We aim to be the place in North America the industry gathers to see the latest innovations in the market, exchange new ideas and make new business connections.”
Capitalizing on its 26 years of smart card event expertise in Europe with CARTES & IDentification, Comexposium is introducing its newest event featuring 10 educational sessions with more than 100 presenters and 100 exhibitors. The three-day event will address the topics, trends and technologies to facilitate new business in the large and dynamic North American market for innovative payment solutions, identification and digital security. Comexposium will launch the CARTES in North America conference at CARTES & IDentification in Paris on November 16 with a keynote presentation, “Payment Trends 2011 from Silicon Valley,” by Daniel Chatelain, managing director of The BayPay Forum, one of the event partners.
North America is the largest market worldwide for payment cards. According to The Nilson Report, the North American region (U.S. and Canada) generates more than 39% of all credit and debit card spending worldwide versus other regions, including Europe, Asia-Pacific, Middle East-Africa and Latin America. This 39 percent share translated to $3.732 trillion in spending at merchants in 2010. Near Field Communication is also a growing market for smart technologies including payment. Juniper Research predicts that North America will account for half of the almost 300 million NFC capable smart phones in the market by 2014. The firm also forecasts that NFC payments and retail marketing capability via coupons and smart posters will become common among smart phone users in Western Europe, North America and other developed regions.
“The announcement by Visa to accelerate EMV migration in the U.S. and the growth of NFC-based mobile payment with Google wallet and the ISIS project offer expanding business opportunities,” said Isabelle Alfano, event director of Cartes in North America. “We aim to be the place in North America the industry gathers to see the latest innovations in the market, exchange new ideas and make new business connections.”
CARTES in North America, produced by Comexposium, is endorsed by global and local partners such as the BayPay Forum, Eurosmart, GlobalPlatform, OATH, SIMalliance, Smart Payment Association, The Nilson Report and WIMA NFC USA. Exhibitors and sponsors include ABnote, 3M, CPI Card Group, HID, Oberthur, Renesas and Verifone.
“CARTES in North America will be the place for the industry to learn about new smart technology innovations and connect with new partners,” said Keith Goldstein, chief executive officer of U.S. Operations at ABnote. “As the gold sponsor, we look forward to bringing our global expertise in payments, ID, transit, loyalty and gift cards to this exciting new event.”
