Doctors Without Borders Introduces Affinity Debit Card Powered by Tempo

SAN MATEO, CA--(Marketwire - July 1, 2010) -  Tempo announced today that Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), the international medical humanitarian organization, is offering supporters an affinity debit card powered by Tempo.

Every time the Doctors Without Borders Debit MasterCard® is used to make a purchase, the organization will receive a portion of standard card transaction fees that will help the organization in its efforts to provide urgent medical care to millions of people in nearly 70 countries around the world each year. The cards can be used anywhere Debit MasterCard cards are accepted and also provide cash-back and ATM withdrawal access to the cardholders' existing checking accounts.
"We are excited to launch a program through which people can support Doctors Without Borders with their everyday purchases," said Jennifer Tierney, director of development for Doctors Without Borders-USA. "Contributions like this enable us to provide assistance to people caught in conflict, such as in war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo, and areas hit by natural disasters, including Haiti where Doctors Without Borders has treated close to 100,000 patients since the earthquake of January 12th and is running over 20 medical facilities in and outside the capital, Port-au-Prince."
Tempo technology makes it easy for organizations to offer affinity debit cards and provides a web portal for consumers to apply for and activate cards, as well as track purchases and rewards. The cards are issued by Tempo partner First Bank & Trust of Brookings, SD, part of Fishback Financial Corporation.
"Tempo's software-as-a-service technology makes it possible to quickly and easily develop affinity debit card programs that allow consumers to leverage their day-to-day debit card purchases into additional income for a worthy organization such as Doctors Without Borders," said Tempo CEO Mike Grossman.
Tempo-enabled debit cards are affinity partner-branded, generate valuable cardholder rewards, and can be used for online and offline purchases and ATM withdrawals. Working with First Bank & Trust, Tempo manages all aspects of card issuance, including risk management, application processing, card fulfillment, authorization and settlement.
Other non-profits that are offering Tempo-powered affinity debit card programs include the Breast Cancer Fund, Greenpeace, In Defense of Animals, the Manilow Fund for Health and Hope, Surfrider Foundation and World Emergency Relief.
