How prepaid has taken public service to the next level
Seven years after Transport for London revolutionised how Londoners pay for their transport, the company is to reveal a new transformation in the Oyster Card at a unique prepaid industry gathering in London next week. Peter Lewis, Head of Oyster at Transport for London is one of several speakers from public services and local government who will share their success stories at the Prepaid 2010conference at The Brewery from 15-16 June.
Says Sonum Puri, the project director of Prepaid 2010: “Innovative local and central government departments specialising in education, healthcare and personalised care are using smart cards to provide new services as cost effectively as possible whilst improving standards of service delivery. During Prepaid 2010 we show the success stories of local councils who have made technology work for them, while saving money and increasing efficiency in the process. We also give local governments the tools to introduce exciting, new cashless applications.”
More successful projects from public services that will be unpacked are:
- The Croydon e-Pay cashless schools project: a groundbreaking project that won a prestigious Local e-Government excellence award.
- Westminster’s pay by phone parking scheme: sophisticated, convenient and accessible.
- Transforming service delivery in local councils with prepaid and smartcards: including Hillingdon Council, London Councils and Bracknell Forest Council.
- Healthcare and catering: the first pioneers of government smartcard technology introduce new applications to improve services.
Some of the most successful retail and finance companies offering prepaid and gift card payment schemes will also share their success stories, new innovations and groundbreaking technologies at what is the UK’s only and Europe’s largest industry gathering, including Mastercard, Visa,Barclaycard, 02, Target, Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury’s, Nokia and PrePay Solutions.
